DFCM City Wide Research Rounds January 19, 2017

DFCM City Wide Research Rounds are an accredited bimonthly, two-hour interactive event focusing on primary care research and research practices. Research Rounds are open to all Family Medicine / Community Medicine / Primary Care researchers, faculty, residents, students, and staff. Invited guest speakers will focus on research results, methodologies, and techniques; and the Research In Progress discussion will highlight new and exciting research.

Join us on January 19, 2017 for the first DFCM City Wide Research Rounds in 2017, featuring Dr. José Pereira and Dr. Melissa Nutik.

Dr. José Pereira will be presenting "A Culture of Curiosity in the Frontlines.". He will discuss the need to engage family physicians and primary health care teams working at the frontlines in Quality Improvement (QI) and research. He will present the CFPC’s emerging vision related to building Research and QI capacity in practices across Canada and scale up excellent work being currently done in some programs and regions. He will also describe how the College is beginning to envision the concepts of Research Ready Practices and QI Ready and Active Practices.

Dr. Woods will be presenting "Informing a New Curriculum: A Generalist Lens". Generalism is believed to be a widely held fundamental value in medical education. The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is currently engaged in preclerkship curriculum renewal.  The new curriculum is purported to be based on ‘Generalist’ principles.  However, in the course of curriculum review, it became apparent that perspectives on Generalism held by faculty and other stakeholders were varied and unclear.  Dr. Nutik will describe the development of an evidence-informed tool to support a Generalist lens through which to provide institutional guidance in the implementation of a new undergraduate curriculum based on ‘Generalist’ principles and propose a program of scholarship to study its impact.
