Previously, as Vice President, Research and Innovation at OCAD University, he was responsible for the strategic leadership and expansion of the university’s research infrastructure and the development of academic business, innovation, and incubation initiatives.

In 2012, Dr. Luke was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to Canadian education and innovation. Dr. Luke obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Toronto. He earned a Master of Arts degree from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern British Columbia.

Dr. Andrew Pinto is a national thought leader regarding the role of artificial intelligence in Family Medicine. He believes that it is essential for DFCM to develop our knowledge of AI and our understanding of how it will affect the work of family physicians in Canada. Dr. Pinto is a family physician, teacher and researcher at St. Michael’s Hospital, and an Associate Professor at DFCM. He completed his residency at the University of Toronto and received his Masters in Health Policy, Planning and Financing at the London School of Economics and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is the Associate Director for Clinical Research at UTOPIAN. Among his many research interests, Dr. Pinto is applying a population health perspective to health services, including the application of new tools to “big data” to support health sector transformation. He is currently leading a team, through the College of Family Physicians of Canada, that is developing a six-part webinar series for family doctors about AI in primary care. The series will be launched in December 2020.
