Faculty Development Awards
Elana Fric Family Medicine Award for Leadership and Advocacy
Purpose: This award recognizes an outstanding Family Physician who pursues a relevant knowledge mobilization project in Faculty Development related to mental health and/or intimate partner violence in family medicine.
Eligibility:
- Faculty at all career stages
- Preference will be given to applications that represent at least two partner departments and/or are inter-professional in nature and include representation from another Faculty
Criteria:
- Candidates for the award will:
- Identify an area of need within mental health or intimate partner violence
- Develop a knowledge mobilization project to address the above
- Partner with a relevant organization to research or deliver programs related to their knowledge mobilization project
- Disseminate their findings /recommendations within 2 years of receipt of the award
AWARD
$2,500 awarded once annually. Nominees will only be able to receive this award once.
Jamie Meuser Award for Excellence in Leadership and Innovation in Faculty Development
- Purpose: To recognize outstanding Leadership contributions in Professional Development
- Eligibility: Any individual inside or outside the Department of Family and Community Medicine who has assumed a leadership role in Professional Development
- Selection: The selection committee will consider the following criteria:
- Sustained (>5 years) contribution to Professional Development
- Major leadership support to a PD initiative/s of the central department or departmental division or program
- Additional PD contributions at a national/international level
- Contributions to PD through involvement in professional associations, government ,policy committees, or other organizations
- Evaluation of outcomes
- Significant contribution to scholarship/KT within Professional Development
- Any contributions as a role model, and /or mentor
Other awards available to be awarded annually to individuals or teams of faculty and/or staff affiliated with the DFCM who display:
Excellence in Faculty Development
- Through sustained leadership in the creation, implementation and/or dissemination of innovative faculty development programs
- Through integration and application of theory into practice
- Preference will be given to individuals or teams whose programs, starting with clear goals, adequate preparation and appropriate methods, achieve significant results that are effectively self-critiqued and disseminated to peers.
Excellence in Continuing Education
- Through sustained leadership in the creation, implementation and/or dissemination of innovative continuing education programs
- Through integration and application of theory into practice
- Preference will be given to individuals or teams whose programs, starting with clear goals, adequate preparation and appropriate methods, achieve significant results that are effectively self-critiqued and disseminated to peers.
Excellence in Scholarship in Faculty Development
- Through sustained contribution to discovery and dissemination of knowledge in the field of continuing professional development
New Leadership in Faculty Development
- For faculty or staff affiliated with the DFCM for less than 5 years who have displayed commitment and contribution to professional development activities in family medicine within their community, their profession, their unit, or the DFCM.
Learner: Contributor to Faculty Development
- For a learner in pre-clerkship, clerkship, residency or fellowship training who has demonstrated interest, and contributed to, professional development of their peers, their community or their profession.
Community-based Contributor to Faculty Development
- Through creativity and innovation in the development, implementation and/or dissemination of professional development (FD or CE) programs.
- Through integration and application of theory into practice
- Only part time or adjunct faculty (or teams with a significant proportion of PT/adjunct faculty members) are eligible for this award
Mentorship
- Awarded to an individual, mentorship dyad, or group who exemplify the meaning of mentorship in the DFCM, and whose activities make a significant contribution to the advancement of mentorship in the DFCM.
Nomination Process
- Individuals and groups may self-nominate for any of these awards
- The DFCM Faculty Development Awards Sub-Committee will consider nominees for these awards
