Huge congratulations to Dr. Danielle Martin, the now former Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM), on being sworn in as the new Member of Parliament for University–Rosedale. While Dr. Martin will be deeply missed by the department, we are incredibly proud of this milestone and excited to see the impact she will have—not only for her riding, but for the country.
Dr. Martin leaves DFCM after an extraordinary period of leadership, having served as Chair since 2021. During her tenure, she was a passionate advocate for academic excellence, collaborative leadership, and the central role of family medicine within the University of Toronto and across the health system. Her work consistently reflected a strong commitment to equity, community‑engaged care, and meaningful health‑system improvement.
A respected physician, educator, and national health‑policy voice, Dr. Martin has long contributed to conversations about health‑system improvement in Canada. Her transition to federal office brings deep experience in primary care, education, and community medicine to Parliament.
Although her departure marks the end of an important chapter for DFCM, it also represents the beginning of an exciting new one. Dr. Martin’s experience, values, and leadership will undoubtedly serve her riding and Canadians well.
The DFCM community extends its sincere congratulations and gratitude to Dr. Martin. We thank her for her exceptional leadership and lasting contributions, and we wish her every success as she begins this next chapter of service.
