Please join us for our inaugural Education Grand Rounds on January 28, 2022. We have invited Drs. Ayelet Kuper and Umberin Najeeb to present their work on anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. These rounds are designed to address religious-based discrimination and to help faculty members ensure that all of our learners and faculty members feel safe and able to engage in respectful conversations.  The Rounds will include content on transformative learning, dialogue. and teaching with stories about the anti-Semitism and Islamophobia affecting learners and faculty.

Both Dr. Kuper and Dr. Umberin have recently been appointed as Senior Advisors in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine (TFOM) Office of Inclusion and Diversity. Dr. Kuper serves as Senior Advisor on anti-Semitism and Dr. Najeeb serves as Senior Advisor on Islamophobia. In these vital roles, they will advise our leaders within Temerty Medicine on curriculum, training programs, and policies to better address and raise awareness about religious-based discrimination that disproportionately impacts Jewish and Muslim communities. They are also available to students, faculty, and staff who may require their counsel or support.

Objectives for the Grand Rounds:

  1. Describe the recent and current landscape of anti-Semitism (AS) and Islamophobia (IP) at TFOM
  2. Recognize where AS and IP fit within the equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) framework
  3. Develop an approach to teaching these complex topics in academic settings
