The University of Toronto Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) is the largest academic department of family and community medicine in the world.

Our 2,000+ faculty of teachers and researchers are recognized internationally for excellence in teachingresearch and clinical care.

Together, we are breaking new ground in comprehensive primary care, from office-based family practice to emergency medicine, palliative care, care of the elderly, mental health, Indigenous health and more.

2024-2025 Family Medicine Report

Our DFCM community has been key in raising awareness of the challenges in family medicine and primary care. The Family Medicine Report aims to now shift the narrative toward hope and progress, highlighting our department's efforts in building strong community partnerships to enhance primary care services.

While much work remains, the creativity of our faculty, learners, and staff is vital to addressing the needs of our communities.

Interested in developing your clinical teaching skills? Applications are open for DFCM's INTAPT course: Interprofessional Applied Practical Teaching and Learning in the Health Professions, open to all practicing family doctors and clinicians. The deadline has been extended and applications are still open.
