Quality & Professional Development

Our program exists to make primary care in Canada — and the world — even better than it is.

COVID-19 Community of Practice

We have all had to change the way we work in response to COVID-19. Keeping up with new guidance, responding to the changing environment, and navigating uncertainty has become the new normal. The COVID-19 Community of Practice is a space for family physicians across Ontario to connect and learn from each other.

About the QI Program

The QI Program was created with a focus on improving the health outcomes and patient experience for those we serve while maintaining costs and ensuring provider wellness.

QI Courses

The DFCM Quality and Innovation Program has led the way nationally in developing quality improvement curriculum for family medicine residents. We also have a QI curriculum for faculty members and teachers, as well as for primary care clinicians. A series of self-learning e-modules form the foundation of our QI curriculum, and we are pleased to offer free access for anyone interested in improving quality in primary care.

Practical Tools for Practices to Improve Quality

Our Quality & Innovation Program has compiled a number of resources to support residents, faculty and primary care professionals to improve quality in practice, including guidance for publishing projects and findings, as well as opportunities to gain knowledge and skill through professional development.

Learning Health Systems

In a learning health system, patients get higher quality, safer, more efficient care, and health care delivery organizations become better places to work. Learn about how we are supporting DFCM family practices to measure and improve care.

Patient Engagement at DFCM

The University of Toronto Family Medicine Patient Advisory Committee was established in 2022 and is the first of its kind. DFCM is leading the way in patient engagement within family medicine postgraduate education.

Continuing Professional Development

Our educational offerings are designed to build learning communities and support primary care clinicians to find fulfilment in their work, integrate evidence into practice, and implement data-driven changes that benefit the patients and communities they care for. Learn more about our CPD offerings.
