Job description:
The Academic Fellowship and Graduate Studies (AFGS) Program Director is responsible for the leadership, coordination, evaluation and advancement of all aspects of the AFGS Program at the University of Toronto.
The AFGS Program includes the following offerings:
- The Master of Public Health (MPH) Family and Community Medicine (FCM) is a 2 yr degree and provides a robust grounding in public health and primary care, equipping providers with the knowledge and skills that they will employ in their professional work in community and academic primary care settings. The degree provides the skills learners need to become effective educators, scholars and leaders in primary care.
- The Master of Science in Community Health (MScCH), Family and Community Medicine (FCM) Stream, is a professional graduate studies degree intended to prepare Family Medicine and Primary Care providers who are or can reasonably expect to become teachers and leaders in their professional fields.
- The Master of Science in Community Health (MScCH), Health Practitioner Teacher Education – HPTE Stream, is a professional graduate studies degree intended to prepare prospective and established health professions faculty to become effective teachers, scholars and leaders. Learners acquire enhanced professional leadership, teaching and education skills and an understanding of public health and health policy.
- The Academic Fellowship (AF) and Medical Education Fellowship (MEF) aim to strengthen the practice of Academic Family Medicine or Medical education respectively by developing teaching, scholarship and research, and leadership skills of participants. These course-based fellowships are ideal for international participants.
- The Clinical Teacher (CTC) and Clinical Research (CRC) Certificate programs provide rigorous but shorter programs than the respective graduate programs. Primarily aimed at current and future faculty or professionals interested in participating in research programs.
The ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate will be a DFCM faculty member with a graduate degree, who has attained a stature eligible for appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
The ideal candidate will have certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada and possess excellent leadership, communication, organizational and team building skills, a proven ability to work well with others, and a strong commitment to students and faculty in the broad DFCM community.
The candidate will possess knowledge of DFCM work in education, research, and quality and innovation. The candidate will have relevant experience as both a clinician and an educator.
The candidate will be strongly committed to the principles relating to equity, diversity, inclusion, Indigeneity and accessibility, and to the reduction of implicit bias in all faculty appointment and junior promotion processes at DFCM.
