Job description:
The Attending Physician is responsible for providing day-to-day medical services to inpatients and outpatients associated with the TB Unit, working closely with specialists in Respiratory Medicine and Infectious Diseases. In addition to providing medical care, the Attending Physician will also play an active role in ongoing quality of care improvement initiatives including the continuing education of allied health professionals, as well as regular team conferences and periodic meetings with external stakeholders including patients and families and Public Health officials. Respiratory Medicine at the Centre is an integrated academic unit with responsibilities for clinical care, teaching and research. This position would be of interest to Physicians who recognize the importance of both the medical and psycho-social dimensions of patient care and are enthused about becoming an integral member of a multidisciplinary team of skilled and committed healthcare professionals. Remuneration will be through the Alternate Payment Plan stipend.
Job Requirements:
- Current CMPA membership
- Registered and a member of good standing with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario
- Ability to perform assessments, diagnosis, treatment, health education/counselling and other medical functions as required according to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario standards or practice and West Park Healthcare Centre’s policies and procedures
- Sharing in after-hours on-call (rotation with other professional staff)
- Eligibility for academic appointment at the University of Toronto
- Additional academic training and experience in respiratory care or infectious diseases, and in providing medical care to TB patients would be an asset

Responsibilities:
- Visits and supervision of the care provided to TB Unit patients – Daily
- Admissions to the TB Unit– Daily as required
- Discharges from the TB Unit– Daily as required
- Entry of TB patient clinical data into the electronic patient record TB clinical/research database- Frequently, as required
- Conference Rounds with the Multidisciplinary Team – Thrice Weekly
- Participation in Outpatient TB Clinics – Thrice Weekly
- Participation in pre-discharge conferences for TB patients – Frequently, as required
- Participation in family conferences – Frequently as required
- Participation in meetings with Public Health officials, related to TB patients – Frequently, as required
Additional Details:
- What is the compensation? Approximately $185k on the annual basis.
- The current salary includes 4 weeks of paid vacation. The Attending Physician would not need to find coverage for those weeks.
- In the event of needing to take more than 4 weeks off per year, you are required to find locum coverage, where your salary for that week would be diverted to the covering locum.
- Is the stipend through the Alternate Payment Plan? Yes. Physicians would complete shadow billing on a monthly basis.
- Involvement in hospitalist on-call coverage rotation pool? Yes, participation in on-call coverage 1 in 8 with significant flexibility amongst the Hospitalist group.
- How many days and hours does this position entail? 5 half-days per week; the expectation for covering TB unit is that Attending Physician is on site Monday to Friday for admissions, discharges, and rounding. This would typically take about 3-4 hours per day (i.e. a half day).
- The only fixed time is Rounds, which is once a week, and can be readjusted from the current schedule (but will need to be fixed).
- Some flexibility in terms of timing/hours as required.
- How many attending physicians are on service at the same time? If more than one, is the list of patients split between them? Only 1.
