Black Health Advisory Table

The Black Health Advisory Table (BHAT) within the Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) has brought together Black faculty, learners, and staff, creating an empowering community. Its purpose is to advance health in Black communities and advise the Department on ways to support Black faculty and learners.

Through its work, BHAT has identified four strategic pillars:

  1. Enhancing pathways and supports for Black learners and faculty in family medicine
  2. Training family physicians in culturally affirming care
  3. Contributing content expertise to decision-making bodies
  4. Leading and supporting Black primary care research.

BHAT is currently co-chaired by Dr. Melanie Henry (VCCP) and Dr. Onye Nnorom (BHFL).

Additional executive members include: Dr. Aisha Lofters (Faculty), Dr. Oare Samuel Alufohai (Faculty), Ms. Chantal Sorhaindo (Faculty), Ms. Elaine Goulborne (Staff), Dr. Nkechi Ikeaba (resident), and Ms. Nifemi Adeoye (medical student).
