Academic Fellowship 

Program Overview

The Academic Fellowship program is a rigorous continuing education program intended to strengthen the practice of family medicine and primary care by developing leadership, teaching and research skills of the practitioners.

Learners completing the academic fellowship will be able to:

  1. Identify and analyze the social, political and scientific forces that influence the health care system and the delivery of primary health care.
  2. Evaluate how individual and family dynamics affect the health of a population.
  3. Apply the principles of adult education when teaching in a classroom or a clinical setting.
  4. Design effective and innovative interprofessional educational programs in a scholarly manner.
  5. Use research methods and basic statistical techniques as they apply to the primary care setting.
  6. Apply the principles of leadership and management as they related to the health care setting.

Length

1-2 years full-time; up to 6 years part-time

Intended audience

Existing or prospective DFCM faculty and licensed health care professionals who have an active practice in their country of primary residence.

Admission requirements

Participants must be licensed and actively practicing (in country of primary residence) in a recognized health profession or be a senior trainee therein.

Deadlines

Please apply at least two months before your planned start date. Program begins May, July (preferred) or September.
