The Essence course is designed to help you develop knowledge and skills in education scholarship. Through a series of workshops and mentoring initiatives guided by experts in the health professions education field, you can develop an education scholarship project of your own creation — from idea to dissemination. Our expert clinicians and educational scientists will be there to support you every step of the way.

Schedule and format: October 22, 2024 - May 20, 2025, hybrid delivery (see Essence web page for a detailed course schedule)

Audience: This free course is exclusively offered to physicians and other health professionals of DFCM and NYGH staff.

Course Goals:

• Develop basic competencies in the area of education scholarship 

• Advance/produce a scholarly project by the end of the course 

• Help create a community of practice amongst participants and support their roles as educators.

This free course is available exclusively to DFCM & NYGH faculty and staff who are physicians and other health professionals interested in developing knowledge and skills in education scholarship.

What is education scholarship? As an umbrella term, education scholarship encompasses both research and innovation in health professions education.

Through a series of workshops and mentoring initiatives spanning one academic year, participants will be supported through the design and execution of a scholarly project of their own choosing. Essence is led by experts in the research field. Participants receive personalized consultations from researchers, including OES faculty and OES Education Scientists from DFCM.
