Research summary:  

Dr. Daniel Myran is a Family Physician, Public Health and Preventative Medicine Physician, and health researcher. In the community, he practices general family medicine with an interest in addiction medicine. 

Dr. Myran’s research focuses on using health administrative data to understand drivers and downstream harms arising from mental health and substance use. His research has three areas of focus: 

• evaluating the impact of public policy (e.g., legalization of non-medical cannabis, school based cellphone restrictions) on healthcare visits for mental health and substance use.  

• understanding the clinical implications of mental health and substance-related health care visits. 

• understanding patterns of mental health service use by physicians and identifying policy options to improve access to comprehensive primary care. 

A key focus of all streams of Dr. Myran’s work is investigating differences in outcomes across systematically disadvantaged groups to identify and mitigate health inequities in society.
