Dr. Julia Alleyne

Dr. Julia M. K. Alleyne is a family physician with a focused practice in sport and exercise medicine at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Health Network, and a long-time educator with experience teaching in the undergraduate, postgraduate and master's level programs. In addition, she trained as a physiotherapist and maintained an active license for 30 years. She holds an appointment as Associate Professor with the University of Toronto Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) and is cross-appointed to the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. At DFCM, she is currently the Associate Program Director for Academic Fellowship (CRCMScCH (FCM)MPH (FCM)), and eLearning Lead of the EXploring Innovative TEchnologies in Family Medicine (EXITE) collaborative.

Julia is an active educational curriculum consultant with an interest in producing learning experiences that are smart, interactive and engaging, and use learner focused methodology for design, innovation and usability testing. Julia has updated, converted and developed multiple online courses and e-learning tools, including DFCM master’s courses, clinical decision-making tools, and courses for institutions including the Ontario Ministry of Health (Spine Online) and the Canadian Academy of Sport Medicine (Advanced Team Physician Course). She was also the clinical lead for Ontario’s Low Back Pain Strategy and was involved in the development of the CORE Back Tool and the CORE Neck Tool. She has served on the medical staff for 5 Canadian Olympic teams, including Chief Medical Officer for the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team in London, England. In the summer of 2015, Dr. Alleyne acted as the Chief Medical Officer for Pan/Parapan American Games in Toronto, which welcomed 41 countries and over 7,500 athletes.

Julia has completed a MScCH (HPTE) with a focus on curriculum development and e-learning, and has received numerous awards for her academic work.
