Job Description:

The Department of Family and Community Medicine Maternity Care (FM-MC) Lead position is responsible for enhancing and supporting DFCM postgraduate training and scholarship in the area of maternity care and fostering a culture of collaboration and support among Family Medicine Maternity Care (FM-MC) providers. The FM-MC Lead will be focused on four pillars: cultivating a Community of Practice, supporting quality postgraduate training in maternity care, faculty development and scholarly initiatives.

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will hold certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada and eligibility for an appointment with the DFCM, at the University of Toronto at the rank of Lecturer or higher, based on academic achievements and contributions to the field, is required.

The ideal candidate will have a rich background as both a clinician and an educator who participates in intrapartum OB care.  They will exhibit exceptional leadership, communication, organizational, and team-building skills. This individual will have a proven track record of successful collaboration and a strong commitment to the development of students and faculty.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as an advocate for FM maternity care within the DFCM and the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.
  • Act as a liaison among the FM teaching sites with respect to Postgraduate Maternity Care Education
  • Support growth of scholarship/research in FM maternity care (using existing infrastructure)
  • Liaise with other university Family Medicine Maternity Care programs
  • Liaise with DFCM Mentorship program to enhance mentorship for faculty and new graduates.
  • Coordinate communication among DFCM maternity care providers
  • Promote professional development and continuing education among DFCM faculty
  • Promote interprofessional collaboration in maternity care scholarship and education
  • Coordinate Emergency Obstetrics skills programs within the DFCM, ALARM course in collaboration with TMU
  • Organize and chair periodic meetings for DFCM maternity care providers

Reporting: The FM-MC Lead will report to the Vice-Chair Education.

Support: The duties and responsibilities of the FM-MC Lead will be carried out with the support of administrative assistant from Office of the Chair.

Appointment:

1.   The position is designated as a 1-half day per week commitment.

2.   This is a five-year appointment. An annual appointment review will be conducted to ensure all parties are satisfied that the appropriate duties and responsibilities are being met with the appropriate support.

3. The appointment will be renewable once after a satisfactory term review.

4.   The FM-MC Lead will be compensated by the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
