Shining a light on past Jewish student medical education quotas in Toronto

Dr. Elliot Lass, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto, and postdoctoral fellow Dr. Joanna Krongold, led a project to chronicle the experiences of physicians who were affected by antisemitic quotas to restrict the number of Jewish students accepted to study medicine at the University of Toronto following the second World War. At an event held on Sept. 29, 2022, Temerty Medicine Dean Trevor Young and senior leaders of U of T-affiliated teaching hospitals recognized and apologized for the discriminatory policy.
