Program + Community Highlights

As a resident in Orillia, you will be immersed in a collaborative and community-focused healthcare environment that emphasizes the integration of care and education. You will be part of the Family Medicine Teaching Unit (FMTU), which is affiliated with both the Couchiching Ontario Health Team (COHT) and the Couchiching Family Health Team (CFHT). These partnerships support a comprehensive, team-based approach to patient care and medical training.

Education and care are deeply integrated throughout the Orillia community. Through partnerships with local clinics, community organizations, and Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, you will engage in a variety of initiatives that connect primary care with hospital services and community outreach. These experiences include chronic disease management, mental health support, preventative care, and more—reflecting the diverse needs of the population you serve.

Residents are actively involved in the care of their patients and participate in a shared call schedule. This includes responsibilities such as home visits and obstetrical deliveries when needed, ensuring continuity of care and hands-on learning in real-world settings.

Your training is further enriched by a balanced mix of inpatient and outpatient experiences. Rotations at the hospital, community placements, and specialty clinics provide a well-rounded foundation that prepares you for independent practice in both urban and rural settings.
