Undergraduate MD Program Details: Humber River Health

Humber River Health (HRH) Family Medicine Hospital-Based Teaching Site with Community Academic Experience

Type of Practice

Clinical clerks assigned to Humber River Health will experience a family medicine core rotation that includes both a hospital-based practice in the Family Health Teaching unit along with valuable community academic experiences.

Location of Practice

The hospital is located at Keele Street and Wilson Avenue, at the 401. It is easily accessed by car, TTC and GO Transit. The affiliated community offices are all located within proximity to the hospital.

Special Features of Site

The Humber River Health community is uniquely positioned to treat a highly diverse and equity deserving population. Clinical clerks will gain experience in treating newcomers, marginalized and racialized populations with a focus on intersectionality, equity, diversity, and inclusivity. Clinical clerks will become part of inter professional teams who work collaboratively to deliver quality primary care services to their patients. With birth rates amongst the highest in the GTA, along with an increasing elderly adult population, clerks will gain exposure to all facets of family medicine from cradle to end of life care, and everything in between.

Mandatory Experience

Students will spend one half day in each of the following: care of the elderly, sports medicine/fracture clinic, minor surgery, and addictions. These educational experiences provide students with the opportunity to appreciate the scope of family medicine in our vibrant community.

Clerkship Electives/Selectives

There are other selective opportunities from which students can choose. Students are asked to inquire with the site administrator for more information.
