Hospital, Community, Teaching Unit and Program
The Family Medicine Residency Program began at Women’s College Hospital in 1971 and continues to be held in high regard within the university, the community, and by the residents who train here.
As of July 2017, Women’s College Hospital obstetrical deliveries will be at the Mount Sinai Hospital as part of a dual hospital collaboration in Women’s Health and gynecological care. Residents will benefit from the resources of both hospitals allowing for expanded clinical experiences and joint academic curriculum.
Women’s College Hospital has been designated as an academic family health team. This allows exciting opportunities for interprofessional collaboration and the addition of allied health colleagues to the group.
The physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and receptionists work together in teams, along with dietitians, occupational therapists, pharmacists and social workers.
Residents become an integral part of the family practice health care team.
Each resident has a defined patient practice and is paired with a family physician supervisor who provides supervision on the academic half-day back throughout the two-year program.
Our program is strongly committed to the learning needs of residents, and the development of skilled, caring family physicians.
