The Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) is a broad and diverse community of faculty, staff and learners working centrally, at hospital sites and in teaching practices to advance family medicine education, research and care.

Every year, this community gathers to recognize and celebrate the successes and contributions of its members.

This year, over 190 faculty, staff and learners gathered virtually to celebrate new and long-service faculty members, junior and senior promotion recipients, and DFCM Program Award, DFCM Award of Excellence and external award winners at the 2021 DFCM Virtual Celebration Event. It was also an opportunity to hear Dr. Danielle Martin’s inaugural speech as our new Chair, and from our newest full professors, Drs. Bjug Borgundvaag, Jocelyn Charles, Sheldon Cheskes and Risa Freeman.

We also heard from Dr. Sid Feldman, our Academic Family Physician of the Year, as well as Dr. Helen Batty, who received the prestigious CFPC Ian McWhinney Family Medicine Education Award.

“It was an incredibly moving event – despite being in a virtual space. It was heartwarming to see how supportive and appreciative our DFCM community is of their colleagues, and how candidly our speakers shared their personal and professional journeys,” says DFCM Chair Dr. Danielle Martin. “Congratulations once again to all our award winners, promotion recipients and long-term faculty members. I look forward to seeing the continued excellence of our department and working with you in the months and years to come.”

2022 DFCM Celebration Event: Recording now available

Watch the video recording from DFCM's annual Award & Celebration Event, held on Sept. 20, 2022. Hosted by Drs. David White and Melanie Henry, the event celebrated DFCM Awards of Excellence, DFCM Program Awards and external awards. DFCM’s 13 senior promotion recipients were featured in a video compilation. Recipients of four highlighted awards were also featured.
