Application deadline: CREMS Summer Research Program

Please see the information below regarding the Comprehensive Research Experience for Medical Students (CREMS) Summer Research Program, which is now accepting faculty submissions for 2026.

If you are seeking matched funding for your project from the Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM), you must submit your proposed research project through the online CREMS Supervisor and Project Information Form  Once you have completed your submission, please notify me by email only at dfcm.clerkship@utoronto.ca (Alyshia D’Cunha) no later than January 26, 2026.

You will be notified by February 3, 2026 whether the DFCM is able to provide financial support for your project, should it be selected by the CREMS office.

If you are NOT seeking matched funding from the DFCM, you can follow the process below (no need to notify dfcm.clerkship@utoronto.ca) and submit directly to CREMS. 


The Comprehensive Research Experience for Medical Students (CREMS) Summer Research Program is now accepting faculty submissions for 2026. A detailed description of the program can be found on the CREMS Summer Research Program Website. 

Key Information 

Selection Process 

  • Adjudication committee will review and score projects 
  • CREMS typically funds 40-50 projects out of 100-120 applications (REB approved projects will be prioritized) 
  • Results are expected by mid-March 

Student Selection Guidelines 

  • Accepted projects will be posted on the CREMS website and open to first- and second-year medical students at the end of March 
  • Students apply directly to supervisors 
  • Supervisors must interview at least 5 applicants 
  • We will not accept pre-determined pairings â€“ you will be asked to provide a list of students interviewed 
  • One student must be selected from the applicant pool - Supervisors to notify CREMS office of their selection by May 1, 2026 

Funding Details 

  • Total student stipend: $6,000 for 10 weeks of full-time work from June-August 
  • CREMS program contribution: $2,750 
  • Supervisor contribution: $3,250
