Global Health Collaborative: Prehospital Emergency Care Short Course
Through the Paramedicine Collaborative at DFCM, we are leading an exciting and unique opportunity in the development and delivery of a short course in Prehospital Emergency Care in collaboration with educators and clinicians from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST Univeristy) in Ghana, West Africa.
The course is part of a larger collaborative between the University of Toronto and KNUST University and is one of five courses that is currently being co-delivered. The program is intended to support a long-term plan for the development of healthcare and emergency services in the region. Each course is being developed by a team of experts from both University of Toronto and KNUST University and funding for this program is covered by an international grant. The Prehospital Emergency Care course is taught in Ghana on an annual basis, with the next course happening in May 2025.
The Prehospital Emergency Care short course is geared towards a mix of rural healthcare providers, lay and first responders and covers a variety of common medical and trauma conditions. We currently have three paramedics involved in the course and are looking for one more paramedic educator who would be interested in joining this initiative. Experience as a paramedic and paramedic educator is required. The course development will occur over the next four months with an estimated 20 hours of time for meetings and content development. The course will be delivered over a 3-day period in May 2025 and will require travel to Ghana for delivery of the course (all travel expenses are paid for). There is opportunity for a second-year of course delivery. If you are interested being a part of this exciting opportunity please email ian.drennan@utoronto.ca by Friday January 24, 2025.
