Program + Site Highlights
- The FMTU clinic is a purpose-built space and is located on the main floor of the hospital.
- Academic and community mentors in the FMTU and the hospital provide a supportive learning environment, with lots of exposure to unique pathologies, new presentations of diseases, and range of ages from newborn to the elderly.
- The FMTU has a social accountability mandate, serving a large, diverse, equity-deserving community. The community has one of the highest percentages of racialized populations including many newcomers to Canada.
- There are high volumes in the ER, Obstetrics, and other hospital departments.
- Residents will manage their own family medicine patients throughout the horizontal program, which enables continuity of care throughout residency.
- There is a unique offering of a social accountability where residents have the opportunity to care for equity-deserving patients in unique settings.
- The innovative, state of the art Command Centre supports access to real-time data for quality improvement and research projects.
- Academic half-day seminars every Wednesday morning
- Residents will be supported by a team of interdisciplinary health professional including social workers, nurses, nurse practitioners, chiropodists and pharmacists – a collaboration experience as part of the learning.

Curriculum
- Family Medicine
The FMTU is located centrally within the Hospital. The horizontal curriculum model will enable residents to manage their own group of patients for the entire duration of their residency to provide longitudinal care and management for the course of illness while emphasizing health promotion and illness prevention. Supervisors and mentors will include faculty located in the FMTU and the community.
