Dr. Shirley Lee is a nationally recognized family physician, educator, and academic leader whose career bridges clinical excellence, educational innovation, and system‑level change. She completed her BSc (Honors) at the University of New Brunswick and her MD at Western University, followed by Family Medicine residency and an Emergency Medicine fellowship at the University of Ottawa. She holds CCFP and CCFP‑EM certifications, an Academic Fellowship from the University of Toronto, and an MHSc in Education. Most recently, she earned the UBC Certificate in Organizational Coaching, achieving COC designation through the International Coaching Federation.
Dr. Lee has held progressive leadership roles, including Vice Chair, Education, in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. Her career includes major institutional appointments at Mount Sinai Hospital, the University Health Network, and the Canadian Medical Protective Association, as well as national leadership as Chair of the Coalition for Physician Learning and Practice Improvement. She currently serves as a Family Physician at Mount Sinai Hospital and as an Associate Professor in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
Her scholarly contributions span medical education, emergency medicine, faculty development, and practice improvement. She has supervised numerous graduate learners, residents, and fellows, and is widely recognized for mentorship that fosters reflective practice and leadership capacity.
Dr. Lee’s impact has been acknowledged through multiple national and provincial awards, including the inaugural Dr. Richard Kohn Memorial Award for Mentorship in Emergency Medicine, the CMPA Award of Excellence for Teamwork and Collaboration, the CAME Certificate of Merit, and more than a dozen University of Toronto awards for innovation, program development, teaching excellence, and educational leadership.
