Black Health Primer

The Black Health Prime: Couse introduction > Start

The Black Health Education Collaborative (BHEC) is a pan-Canadian organization committed to transforming medical and health professional education to improve the health of Black communities across Canada. Available in English and French, the Black Health Primer is BHEC’s foundational course on Black Health.

The Black Health Primer empowers participants with tools and resources to address anti-Black racism and transform the Canadian healthcare system. It was created in response to gaps in education and training on Black health and anti-Black racism in medicine and public health in Canada.

Anchored in critical race theory, the Black Health Primer supports the “unlearning” of anti-Black racism to create responsive health care professionals across disciplines who are guided by anti-racist practices, offering solutions to address health inequities.

By the end of the course, educators and learners will:

  • Gain knowledge in and promote dialogue on anti-Black racism and Black health
  • Learn to identify anti-Black racism in health care and its effects on health
  • Learn to implement racially just practices to improve the health of Black people and communities across Canada
